Jiri Mahen Library in Brno
The Jiří Mahen Library in Brno, a subsidiary organization, is the largest public municipal library in Moravia and the second largest in the Czech Republic. It has been run by the City of Brno since 1921. The library is an important cultural, educational, information and meeting centre and consists of the Central Library, the Mahen Memorial, IN-centre and 34 branches. The library offers a wide range of services, literature, media and music and organises cultural and educational programmes for schools and the general or professional public.

The Jiří Mahen Library in Brno offers a large selection of fiction and educational literature, newspapers and magazines, AV media and music, services for blind and weak sighted readers, access to the Internet and electronic databases. It is expanding its portfolio by offering non-traditional services, such as lending e-books and e-readers, board games, thematic suitcases, toys and didactic aids.
The KJM library also provides information on literature, regional authors, factual and legal information, information about Brno and the region, information from the state and local government and interlibrary loan service. It organises cultural and educational programmes for schools and the general public, organises programmes for experts, participates in and initiates a number of projects and develops foreign cooperation. The library collection contains over 750 000 library items. In a year, KJM registers 40 thousand readers, who make almost 800 thousand visits and about 1.6 million loans.
The KJM operates through the Central Library system with 34 branches located throughout the city. The KJM includes the Mahen Memorial with an exhibition on the life and work of the writer, playwright and first Brno librarian Jiří Mahen. The department specializes in regional literature and bibliography, and there is a library on the ground floor of the villa. The KJM also includes IN-centrum, which is dedicated to educational activities in the field of information and computer literacy. The KJM also houses the Europe Direct Brno Information Centre with a rich library collection and electronic information resources.
