Mahenův památník

The Mahen Memorial is a unique multifunctional facility. On the ground floor you can find a library with an extensive collection, providing advanced library services. On the first floor is the Jiří Mahen Museum with a number of unique exhibits and a reconstruction of Mahen´s study. Lovers of literature, theatre, antiques and fishing will find their own area of interest here. There are modern conference and exhibition rooms in the attic. The memorial is located in the picturesque villa that Jiří Mahen occupied between 1935 and 1939. The villa has a garden where visitors can sit with a book.

The memorial was created in 1992 as a reminder of the life and work of Jiří Mahen, but also as a realization of his ideas about the library as a cultural and community centre. Therefore, lectures, readings, exhibitions, plays and creative writing courses are held here. A variety of educational and entertainment programmes are offered to preschools, primary schools and secondary schools. This includes events for mentally, socially and ethnically disadvantaged children. The Memorial Library is part of the network of KJM departments.
